Enjoy Your Day
Festival Policies
Welcome to Tall Ships® Tacoma 2008 on the lively shores of
the Foss Waterway. We hope you will
enjoy the sights and sounds of this unique festival. Whether you are touring a ship, sailing away on an adventure or enjoying
the day landside, we have a few tips for to make the most of your visit.
Festival Fun In the
Northwest
Come prepared for a beautiful day in the Northwest. While we have put in the request for sun
during the festival, we keep our state evergreen with rain, so plan
accordingly. Dress for the Northwest in
layers and even if the forecast is for sun, be prepared for a sudden change and
some rain.
There will be plenty of tasty and affordable treats
available from our food vendors so come with your appetite. Cash and credit cards are accepted at most
vendors.
Prohibited Items
For the safety of everyone certain items are prohibited at the festival.
- Guns, knives, taser devices or objects obviously
intended to harm persons
- Mace, pepper spray or other personal defense items that
could harm others
- Fireworks or any other form of explosives
- Alcoholic beverages unless part of “ships stores”
- Animals, except certified service animals
Since animals are not permitted on the festival grounds and
don’t do well when left in vehicles during the summer, please leave Fido at
home.
A Sailing We Will Go
Be ready to cast off and enjoy
your sailing adventure! Before you
board a ship for a tour or a sailing adventure, please familiarize yourself
with the following regulations.
- The
air on the water is significantly cooler than on land, so dress in layers
especially if your adventure is in the evening.
- Outside
food is not permitted on the ships. If
you will be a sail trainee on an adventure you can pre-purchase meals to enjoy
during your sail.
- Wheeled
items are not allowed on the ships.
There will be a “parking area” for strollers, wagons, scooters and
wheelchairs. Tall Ships® Tacoma is not
responsible for items left in this area.
- No
pets other than official service animals are allowed on ships. If you have a service animal and are sailing
during a cannon battle, we recommend you make arrangements to leave the animal
on shore since the sounds of the blasts may damage the animal’s hearing.
- Certain
items are prohibited on the ships. Please review the list before coming to the
festival. All carry-on items are
subject to search and prohibited items will be confiscated by security.
- No
glass containers are allowed on ships.
- Proper
footwear such as rubber-soled shoes, sneakers or boat shoes must be worn to
board a vessel. Absolutely no spike
heels are permitted on board.
- Visitors
cannot sit on rails or bulwarks enclosing the decks.
- Smoking
is not permitted on board.
- Visitors
cannot climb or attempt to climb ships’ rigging unless authorized by the
captain.
- Handrails
must be used when boarding and departing a vessel.
- Visitors
cannot run, jump or bounce on gangways.
