What are Tall Ships®?
Tall Ships® are sailing vessels that are traditionally
thought of as the old square-rigged sailing ships like
those seen in pirate movies. However, to be more precise,
the Tall Ships® that will come to Tacoma are boats
that are fore and aft-rigged, as well as the traditional
square-rigged ships. The vessels will range in size from
40 feet to over 300 feet.
When will the Tall Ships® be
in Tacoma and where will they be moored?
The ships will arrive in the Thea Foss Waterway on July
3rd, 2008 and will depart on July 6th, 2008.
How many ships will
be coming to Tacoma?
About 30 vessels will participate; of those, approximately
four will be Class “A” vessels, the largest
class designation. Class “A” vessels are square-rigged
ships 120 feet or longer, or fore- and aft-rigged vessels
160 feet or longer.
Can I go aboard the
vessels?
The public can purchase passes that will allow boarding.
Prices have not yet been determined.
What other events will
take place while the ships are in port?
Visitors will be able to attend ship sailings, ship tours,
educational events and exhibits, musical performances,
and a festival environment jam-packed with food, crafts,
displays and all sorts of nautical-themed activities. All
of these events will create opportunities for attendees
to meet the crews of the visiting vessels.
Who produces Tall Ships
Tacoma®?

registered in the State of Washington -- Joe Jadwin, President;
